Who is Jimmy Houston?

One of the most appealing aspects of sports is the availability of professionals who may serve as role models. When it comes to pro-fishing, Jimmy Houston is definitely a name you should know. He is currently in his 45th year of television and is known as one of America’s favorite fishermen. This is evidenced in the fact that his TV show "Jimmy Houston Outdoors" was the number one outdoors show on ESPN for 20 years.

Jimmy Houston Outdoors still airs on TV to this day on 9 channels! This includes CBS Sports, WFN, Discovery Channel, Pursuit, You Too America, My Family TV, Action Network, Heartland TV, and the AT&T Sports Southwest Network. 

He also has a second TV series titled Jimmy Houston Adventures, which currently airs on four channels including You Too TV, My Family TV, Hunt TV, and Pursuit. 

But Jimmy Houston didn’t just become an overnight sensation on TV without the fishing accolades to back it up. In 1966, as a senior in college, Houston won the Oklahoma State Championship. Since then, he has gone on to win over a million dollars in bass tournaments. Some of his achievements include: 

• Fishing 15 BassMaster  Classics and winning B.A.S.S Angler of the year title in 1976 and 1986. 
• King of Sports for Fishing in 1989.
• Inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 1990.
• Inducted into the Professional Bass Fishing hall of fame in 2002.
• Jim Thorpe, Man of the Year in 2004.
• Inducted into the IGFA Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 2008.
• Inducted into the Outdoors Hall of Fame in 2008. 

In 2016, Houston celebrated his 50th year of professional fishing in national tournaments, and in 2017 he was awarded the National Lewis and Clark Conservation Award, alongside Bill Dance and Roland Martin. 

Jimmy had also written five books, including “Caught Me a Big’un” which became the #1 best-selling fishing book.

Jimmy has his own YouTube channel in addition to all of his accomplishments and TV broadcasts. He currently has 117k subscribers, and uploads new content three times a week. Jimmy’s channel is filled with tricks and tips and general ‘How-To’s’ for professional fishermen and amateurs. It is intimate and gives you a closer view at who Jimmy is and how much he enjoys fishing and the general outdoors.
