Gaming Glasses Blue Light Blocking

Do Gaming Glasses Block Blue Light?

Solar Bat owner and optometrist, Dr. Gary Nesty, has devoted his career to the protection of the eye and improved visual performance. In the past several years “digital eyestrain” and HEV blue light have become a “hot topic”. Dr. Nesty has been researching the harmful effects of blue light wavelengths and particularly what is termed HEV wavelengths on the human eye.

The blue light portion of the visible spectrum is the most difficult wavelengths for the human eye to bring into focus. Blue light wavelengths cause more eyestrain because the eye is continually adjusting to bring to focus those wavelengths. Blue light has the shortest wavelength and thus the highest energy levels of light visible to the human eye. The higher the energy the more a wavelength is scattered. The sun is a natural source of blue light and when that blue light hits the earth’s atmosphere it is scattered due to its high energy level. This is the reason the sky is blue. Because the sun is a natural source for blue light the human body becomes attuned to the blue portion of the visible spectrum as a signal to “wake up and become alert”. This is the reason some people find it harder to go to sleep after long hours on the computer or digital screens. Studies show that blue light impacts mood, cognitive function, and restful sleep.

Nearly all lenses in the computer and gaming glasses market are clear lenses with a blue anti-reflection coating on the back surface. Some lenses in this market have the anti-reflection coating coupled with a light-yellow tint. The best and only lens that will filter the most harmful HEV portion of the blue light spectrum is the lens tint used in Solar Bat’s Computer and Gaming glasses. These lenses have the same blue light anti-reflection coating however the lens material is infused with a tint that mimics the melanin color present in human skin. Melanin pigment is what gives your skin its color. Melanin is a pigment also present in the human eye that reduces the harmful effects of blue light (HEV). The melanin lens tint with the blue anti-reflection coating is the reason Solar Bat’s Computer and Gaming glasses give your eyes the protection they need from the most harmful HEV blue light exposure. However, it is this melanin like tint that is the most important part of the equation in making the best blue light glasses. The Solar Bat lens will result in less eyestrain, reduced dry eye symptoms, fewer headaches, and more vivid vision on digital devices. In short, Solar Bat makes the best computer glasses and best gaming glasses in the market. Solar Bat says, “If it isn’t brown, it isn’t taking blue down”.
